I hope you will be able to join us throughout the entire season of Lent. This year the Imposition of Ashes will be self-administered using a Q-tip for the safety of everyone. Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent with its emphasis on self-examination, renewal, entering the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection. We will have the “imposition of ashes” and Holy Communion. Some are planning outdoors services, weather permitting, with individual packets of ashes that people can administer to themselves collectively during the service or later at home. I hope you will be able to join us on Ash Wednesday at 7 pm. This full moon is also called the “paschal full moon.” The first full moon in spring sets the date for Easter and from there we back up Ash Wednesday 40 days earlier (not counting the Sundays in Lent) to set the date for the beginning of Lent. Did you know that the date for Easter is set each year by the moon? Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the full Moon after the vernal equinox (spring). ![]()
